Déardaoin ===> I Love You

Merry Thursday, my lovelies, I remain classics_lover, your supreme Mugwump for the week. Today's theme is I Love You, and prompts must concern love, romantic or platonic. Have fun, one and all!

Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!

Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt

Some examples to get the ball rolling...

+ Dragon Age, anypair, love is a different type of magic

+ Mass Effect Trilogy, anypair, everyday love rituals

+ Tortall, Kel +/ any, she doesn't recognise romantic love until it walks up and kisses her

We use AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2017 collection. See further notes on this new option here.

Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 1 (not very current), Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet 2, or the Calendar Archives, or for more recent prompts, you can use LJ's advanced search options to find prompts to request and/or fill.

While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheets and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay,

I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough

Fill. Stargate: Atlantis, John Sheppard/Rodney McKay.
They never said it.

(“Seriously?”

“Yes, Jeannie, seriously.”

“But these are your wedding vows. How can you not say 'I love you'?”

Rodney shrugged, clearly a gesture he'd picked up from John, and went back to the little card he'd been scribbling away on.)

It had never felt necessary: how can three little words hold the whole of what they actually felt?

Also, seeing as both were emotionally stunted—as Jennifer had put it—it was possible saying that one phrase might have actually killed them.

(Carson snickered to himself as Jennifer sutured John's wound for the second time while chastising him, Rodney no where to be seen.

He knew better than to show his face in the infirmary after what he'd done in helping John to dehisce his stitches.

“The two of you so deserve each other, you know that? You and Rodney, unable to actually say something to each other like adults, no, so you have to go do some stupid self-injurious activity out on a vacant pier. If this had opened fully... you know exposed intestines aren't attractive, right?”

“I...”

“Don't interrupt.”

He flicked his eyes to Carson who took a step back and smirked at his friend. To be fair, if the pair of them had actually listened to the medical instructions, he might have intervened, but no, John had gone ahead and disobeyed so he could suffer the consequences.

He did, however, call Rodney down to the infirmary once Jennifer's venting got to be a bit more passionate.)

It was never doubted, though; everyone could see it: when Rodney couldn't leave the lab for one reason or another and John dragged the coffee pot and a cot in for his husband, when Rodney would crack some new piece of (fun) tech and demand that John got first attempts at using it.

When John crossed planets on the hunt for his other half after he'd been kidnapped.

When Rodney fought the SGC, the IOA, the damned US Government, after they tried to courtmartial John for disobeying orders to protect Atlantis.

(“You know,” Jack O'Neill said, “he wasn't really protecting the city.”

Rodney looked incensed. “Excuse me? Were you not paying attention the entire time we were stuck in that farce of a trial?”

“Oh, I was. Highly educational. It's how I can confidently say that what John Sheppard was protecting wasn't just Atlantis.”

Rodney waited, annoyance growing.

“Do me a favor. Actually, do the SGC a favor and don't ever get yourself killed, because we can barely keep him in line on a good day.”)

So good. Those two. Unable to say the words but showing them at every turn. Well done!

Emotionally constipated boys, those two. At least when it comes to talking. Thank you! :D

I LOVE THIS!!

Rodney and John have never needed to say the words, because they live them every single day. And you show that here perfectly.

Thank you so much!
