"Hey, how's it going, Zel…" John's voice trailed off mid-word.
"He had to go deal with something in the labs," Ronon grunted as he wrested with the warped control panel on puddle jumper #1. "Had me work on fixing this."
"You going to be able to fix her?" John asked.
His voice was full of so much hope and worry that Ronon abandoned his efforts to work the control panel free to look at him. John immediately blushed, smiling shyly when he saw the amusement in Ronon's eyes. Ronon shrugged, wobbled one hand and then nodded slowly.
"Probably," Ronon said. "Gotta get this free and then figure out which crystals are damaged, how much needs to be replaced. She'll be fine. I think."
"Need a hand?" John asked tentatively. He shrugged at Ronon's raised eyebrow. "Since I was the one that got her shot up, you know. I feel bad. She's my baby."
Ronon laughed and gestured for John to come over. They tried hard not to be too obvious in public but he really could use a hand working the control panel free. John sidled up next to Ronon and nodded as Ronon demonstrated what he wanted John to do. It was pretty easy. He just needed someone to support the panel while he worked the warped catches free. It looked like the hinges were broken so Ronon couldn't be sure that the panel would stay up when he succeeded.
"Right there," Ronon murmured. "Good."
John's cheeks went slightly red.
"Okay, just hold still." Ronon started struggling with the catches, grunting occasionally from the effort of working them loose.
John's ears started blushing and he shuffled his feet.
"No, don't move," Ronon warned him as the panel lurched.
"Sorry," John murmured. His face got even redder.
"Hmm, need to try something different here," Ronon said when one catch came free but the other stayed tight.
He moved around behind John, reaching over his shoulders to carefully pry at the catch so that he wouldn't break it. John moaned ever so quietly. His fingers were trembling where they supported the panel.
"Almost there," Ronon said. "Just a little more… Ha! Got it!"
He moved around John to carefully lower the panel down, making sure that none of the wires were stretched too far and that nothing shorted out. John cleared his throat abruptly. Ronon frowned at him, saw the exceedingly uncomfortable expression on his face and looked back at the entrance to the 'jumper. Zelenka was looking at them with an equally uncomfortable expression, like he was almost afraid of what he'd find inside.
"Great," Ronon said, nodding for Zelenka to come over. "Got that panel open with Sheppard's help. Looks like it's not too damaged. The hinges are broken and the whole thing's warped. Probably what made it stop working right, right there."
"Oh! Oh, of course," Zelenka said, blushing as brightly as John had earlier. "My mistake. I heard and thought… Ah, does not matter what I thought. Thank you for assistance, Ronon."
"You're welcome. Want me to stick around?" Ronon asked.
"No, no, I can handle from here," Zelenka said briskly. "You can return to your lunch or work or whatever it was that you were doing."
"Thanks," Ronon said, looking at John. "Did miss lunch. Think they've got anything left?"
"Maybe," John said, smiling despite the still-embarrassed expression on his face. "Might as well go see."
They left together. Ronon waited until they were almost at the lunch room and the hallway was empty before he turned to John.
"Maybe we can try your and Zelenka's version of that later?" Ronon said, smirking at him.
John's violent blush and spluttering realization that Ronon had known exactly what he was doing to him was worth the sharp jab to his shoulder. Ronon laughed and headed in for a late lunch. They might not be able to be open yet but it was fun messing with people's minds. Hopefully things would be even more fun if John's military's stupid regulations ever got changed.
Wow...I never thought Ronon as a scientist and you wrote him so well and so in-character, and he fits so well with John!
Thank you very much! ~smile~
I was surprised at how easy it was to turn Ronon into a scientist. He really fits well with it and yes, he does so well with John.
You're very welcome! Thank you for the prompt and for the comment!
