WEDNESDAY - APRIL FOOLS' DAY

Today's theme is going to honor April Fools' Day, so you might want to write about jests, pranks, hoaxes, gags (no, not that kind...well, not necessarily that kind), fools errands, or practical jokes. Be as literal or as creative as you like. Any fandom, any pairing.

Please follow the following formats (the second is for crossovers) in your requests in order to help the code-monkeys:

Fandom, Pairing, Prompt
Fandom1/Fandom2, Pairing, Prompt

Some examples might be:

Fringe, Peter/Olivia, No, really. It's evidence.
SPN, Dean/Sam, scavenger hunt
Pirates of the Caribbean/Sharpe, Jack Sparrow/Sharpe, fools gold

You may leave as many prompts as you'd like as long as they're one prompt per comment, and you can write in response to your own prompts.

If you don't see any prompts today that wake up your muses, then please check out the Lonely Prompts index for inspiration.

Most of all, have fun!!!

Sam knew it was going to be one of those days when Major Lorne walked into her office, sat down across from her, and slouched in his chair.

"Morning, Sam," he said.

"Good morning," Sam said, wondering when she had suddenly become 'Sam' rather than 'Colonel Carter'. "Is there some reason Colonel Sheppard sent you instead of coming himself?"

"Huh?"

"I was supposed to meet him about policy changes at the SGC."

"Yeah, I know," Lorne said slowly. "That's why I'm here."

"O-kay... but why isn't he?"

"I'm sitting right here, Sam." Lorne frowned. "Are you feeling okay?"

Just then the door opened and Sheppard stepped inside. He looked at Sam and Lorne, then said, "Colonel Carter, I think we have a problem."

"Huh," Lorne said. He scratched the back of his head. "I thought things looked taller for some reason."

"Very funny, sir."

Sam sighed and resisted the urge to bang her head on the table. "What did you touch?"

"I dunno," Lorne said.

"It would have had to have been after breakfast and morning report," Sheppard said. "That's when we were last together. I do remember getting a little dizzy when we left my office."

"So do I, now that you mention it," Lorne said. He frowned. "Lorne, are you always this hungry?"

"Yes, sir."

"Really? Like, seriously, I'm starving and we only ate an hour ago."

"Pretty much, sir."

"Wow. Remind never to get stranded on a planet with you."

"I wouldn't worry, sir. You look a little too stringy to me."

"Gentlemen," Sam said. "Let's go to your offices."

On their way Sam called for McKay, who promptly turned up with Zelenka and a minion - a scientist with an armful of equipment. Lorne and Sheppard both agreed that the only thing that had changed recently was a small turtle-like statue that had been a gift to Lorne.

"You know, I think I might have picked it up," Lorne said.

"Yeah," Sheppard agreed. "Now that you mention it, I do remember asking you not to play with my priceless alien artifact and taking it away from you."

"Honestly," McKay muttered while cautiously poking the artifact with a volt meter, "if I could get back all the time I've wasted trying to fix things you broke, I'd have reinvented the ZPM by now. Are you getting anything at all, Radek?"

"No." Zelenka pushed his glasses up. "No radiation, no magnetic field or static charge, no energy source - nothing at all. It may as well be a lump of baked clay with some glass and jewels stuck on it."

"Well it's obviously more than that! Here, give me the scanner, you must be using it wrong."

"Wrong? I simply press the button and it tells when what it picks up, how could I be using it wrong?"

"You've obviously found some way. Now hand it over."

Sam tried to tune them out as she used Lorne's laptop to search the database. It was obvious this was some sort of Ancient screw-up, like countless others she had read about in the expedition records and occasionally experienced first hand. It was surprisingly easy; she found an entry after only a couple of minutes.

"Holy crap," she said. McKay and Zelenka instantly took two big steps away from the artifact, while Sheppard and Lorne peered over her shoulders.

"Did you find something?" Sheppard asked.

"It's a marital aide," she said. McKay and Zelenka stepped even further away from it. "It's so you and your partner can experience... you know. Relations from the other person's point of view. In the default setting it doesn't reverse things until you... you know."

"Do it?" Lorne said with a broad grin.

"It might wear off eventually..." Sam said, scrolling through the database entry. She frowned when something caught her eye, then re-read it again more carefully. "Hrm. Gentlemen, I think we should have a word. Rodney, Radek, keep working but be careful."

"Oh, I will certainly be very careful," Radek said.

They stepped outside and Sam looked at her officers. "Obviously I can't order you to do anything..."

"But it would be best to fix this fast, yes, ma'am," Sheppard said. "We'll take care of it."

"Take the rest of the day off and do so," Sam said. "Also, you might want to check your grammar next time you write a fake database entry, and hope those two never figure out that thing really is just a clay turtle."

"Will do, Sam," Lorne said with a grin and a wink.
