pinch hit: villain day

Here's another pinch-hit, and the theme is villains, bad guys, the dark side - whatever.

Fic: Sleeper Agents - Avengers.
They wake, a handful at a time, just as (contingency) planned. Without the portal they cannot call for reinforcements, and without their General they lack the ability to make another. But they have their orders, they know the plans -plans within plans, and though the Other had mocked the Prince the Soldiers who would be fighting did not- and they get to work.

They wake in cold rooms behind locked doors, many naked, some lost to (vivisection) dissection, but with their connection to the Hive is intact. They coordinate. They filter out into the populace, forms melting away from the Midgardian Stereotype of strange, other, alien and into something more... dull. Forgettable.

They take trusted names and faces. They adopt lives and children. They wait. They whisper in ears. Lobby in houses. They watch as human turns on mutant turns on alien turns on nation and the world of mortals implodes.

When their General-Prince returns, they are happy to report minimal casualties (for their Chitauri) and a world in devastation begging for a leader. Loki gives them a god.
