Avengers: Honor or Duty
"You cannot do this, Father!" Thor yelled, voice a combination of rage and confusion as his trusted companions looked on. Their own faces were carefully blank except for the confusion in their eyes. "I did not bring my brother back just so that he could be put to death! I promised him!"

"Then you should not have made that promise!" Odin gestured, hand sweeping to encompass the warriors who had followed Thor into Odin's chambers more for moral support than anything else. "Would you have me take the heads of your friends in recompense, instead? They accompanied you to Jotunheim. Their hands are are red as your's and Loki's!"

"Jotunheim?! We've already treated with Jotunhiem! It is Midgard-"

"The reason Jotunheim demanded so little was not because they were cowed, but because it was understood that Loki was dead. Now, every Realm knows he is not. You see the problem, Thor? Jotunheim threatens war if his head is not delivered, though they would just as happily take yours!"

"Loki is your son!"

Odin's face clouded, his single eye swimming with unidentifiable emotion. When next he spoke his voice had lost the volume but none of the rage. "Not by blood. Not like you. You think it only Jotunheim that offers the problem? Many believe your punishment was too light, too swift. What are a handful of days -even days as a mortal- compared to the potential eons that we may live?"

Odin's eye cast to Sif and her companions. "And what of those that knowingly committed treason not once, not twice, but three times over simply because they did not like the decision of the Council? Your oaths were witnessed, Friends-of-Thor, as was the speed at which you broke them. No. Better to lay the blame for it all at the feet of a Frost Giant. That is something the people can understand. Will not question. Better than to make it appear as if the House of Odin is rife with selfish, unthinking traitors."

Tears threatened at the corner of Thor's eyes even as his teeth ground in grimace. "When I am King, this will never happen."

Odin turned his back on his child, voice heavy with regret. "Then you will never be king."

I will bear in mind that Thor helps Loki flee.
But thanks for the fill. I'm aware that I was asking for this.

And Loki Laughs, mad with delight. For this is truth. For he always knew.

For this is better than his first death.

"Tell me I die for Asgard."

For that is what he always wanted.
