Monday: Past Lives

Hello, all. *waves* I'm jade_starlight and I'll be your Guest Host for the week. It may be a little early, but as I'm heading to bed I wanted to go ahead and get the post up. *g*

We're starting the week with past lives, either events that take place pre-canon or the more common definition, a life lived in a time period before the canon life. What did your characters do before we first saw them? Were they Roman senators or cowboys in another life? Go crazy.

Please think about our wonderful codemonkeys and use the correct format (the second is for crossovers).

Fandom, Pairing, Prompt
Fandom1/Fandom2, Pairing, Prompt

BSG, Lee/Kara, flight school
SG1/SGA, Cam/John, the old west

And remember not to post more than 3 prompts in a row. If a prompt is answered, you can prompt again later in the day.

If you don't see anything you like, you can always Adopt a Lonely Prompt.

Past Prologue
Well... this has a synonym for old and a mention of the west. It totally counts.

"Well," John said, looking down at the people walking through the gate. "I can't say that I expected this to be how it was all going to end."

"Me neither," Cam agreed. He shook his head. "Evacuation back to Earth. Seems like we could have done more."

"We still could skip out, maybe reach one of the planets with a fleet still resisting the Wraith."

"Naw. These idiots are going to need us. Remember that report your XO sent back? The gate outpost's in a damned ice sheet."

"That's not exactly encouraging, you know."

"Don't worry, I'm coming with you. I've got this feeling that things will work out sooner or later. You notice that Doctor Weir never went through?"

"I did. You think Janus is up to something?"

"Janus is always up to something, the sneaky bastard. It's half the reason we're in this mess to begin with. If the researchers had spent less time screwing around with toys and more building us better guns, we might have won."

"We'll just have to try better next time." Cam clapped John on the shoulder. "I figure we're owed about a hundred years' worth of leave, and the scouts saw some pretty nice beaches on the west coast of the smaller northern continent. Think about it - nothing but sand and sun for miles, no Wraith, no Council, just us and the waves. Maybe Laurentius, if we're feeling generous."

John nodded slowly. "Good place to relax and think about ascension."

"I don't know, they say ascension's all about letting go of all holds you to this life, and we've both got a pretty big connection on the mortal plane. I do, at least."

"So do I, but I'm pretty sure that letting go stuff is bullshit anyhow. Me, I think orgasms might be the key."

"I could work with that," Cam said with a grin. "I think it's our turn. Ready to go, Commander?"

"That's Supreme Commander to you."

"Whatever," Cam said as they walked down to the gate. "That was shear dumb luck, or maybe some kind of bribery of the computer."

"Excuses, excuses." They reached to gate and took a last look around the darkened control room. Then they took each other's hands and stepped through the shimmering wormhole into their new lives.

There's a very good chance that you will get more. Like, a lot more. 40,000 words more.

Re: Past Prologue
I'd say it definitely fits the theme, even if it does dash all my hopes of seeing them as gunslingers. (Kidding!) It's a lovely piece with a lovely ending, and even as Ancients, Cam and John were very...Cam and John.
