Tuesday: Realism

Today's theme is Realism.

We write fanfic in the world of fantasy, but the reality of real life can be fuel for the most compelling of stories. People get cramps during sex, or someone pushes the limits too far. STDs and unexpected pregnancies, layoffs, injury, mental illness, homesickness, mood swings, funny habits - the possibilties are endless! And just because most of my examples range from tragic to inconvenient, doesn't mean that they can't be cute and funny and wonderful too.

Please think about our wonderful codemonkeys and use the correct format (the second is for crossovers).

Fandom, Pairing, Prompt
Fandom1/Fandom2, Pairing, Prompt

Heroes, Mohinder/Sylar, "You don't need a chiropractor, I can fix it!"
Lost/Heroes, Daniel/Mohinder, "You don't remember me?"

Please remember not to post more than 5 prompts in a row and more than 3 prompts per fandom. If one or more of your prompts are answered, you can prompt again later in the day.

If you don't see anything you like, you can always Adopt a Lonely Prompt.

Marvel, Bucky Barnes/Kate Bishop, meeting the parents

"Buck, are you sure you want me here? This seems kind of...private."

Kate shivered as she and Bucky walked down the path. It was a cold October morning, and Bucky's face was solemn.

"Yeah. I met your parents. I want you to meet mine."

Bucky and Kate stopped by a large marble headstone towards the back of the cemetary. It read "Sarah Barnes: 1902-1961. James Barnes Sr: 1895 - 1940". Bucky bowed his head.

"Hey, mom. Hey, dad. I know I haven't been around as much as I should, but things have been really crazy. I'm Captain America now, believe it or not. But that's not why I'm here. This is Kate."

Kate waved at the tombstone, not quite sure how to react. "Um, hi, Mr. and Mrs. Barnes."

Bucky smiled. "I know you were always hoping I'd settle down someday, mom. Well, I finally found the right girl. In our line of work, you never know how long you've got left, so I'm hoping to make this one count. I wish you two could have met her. I think you'd love her."

Bucky bent down and lay a single flower atop the headstone. He wrapped his arm around Kate, and they turned to leave.

"Thanks for sharing that with me, Buck."

"Hey, I had to introduce my parents to the girl of my dreams, right?" Bucky leaned over and kissed Kate on the cheek.

"I know, it's just...you never really talk about your folks much. I didn't want to ask too many questions."

Bucky nodded. "I always felt really guilty about leaving my mom behind. My dad had just been killed in training exercises before the war, and I was full of anger. I wanted to make my dad proud, so I faked my ID and joined the army. I figured I'd be back home with my mom soon enough. But obviously, that never happened. I just wish...I had gotten to talk to her, one more time, tell her why I made the choices I did."

Kate smiled. "I think she knew."

All of a sudden, Bucky's Avengers communicator started beeping. He looked at it. "Atlantean terror cell invasion. Gotta go."

"Kick some butt, Cap. Call me if you need backup!"

"Will do!" Bucky leapt on his motorcycle and drove away. Kate briefly turned back, where she could see the headstone in the distance.

"Thanks for raising such a great guy, Mr. and Mrs. Barnes. I'll try to take care of him for you."
