Thursday: Titles and Lines

Happy Thursday! nevcolleil here as your guest host. Thank you for all the great prompts and fills you've been rolling out - keep them coming! Today's theme is Titles and Lines. Your prompts should be the titles of books, movies, what-have-you OR memorable lines from one of those.

The rules:

♥ No more than five prompts in a row.

♥ No more than three prompts in the same fandom.

♥ No spoilers in prompts.

If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space.

Prompts should be formatted as follows:

Fandom, Character+/Character, Prompt

A few examples...

+ Any, any, "I'm sorry." / "Are 'we' sorry, too?" (Line from the movie Outbreak)

+ White Collar, Neal/Peter(/El), Contagion (Movie Title)

+ X-Men: DOFP, Logan/Charles, Persuasion (Book Title)

MCU Fill: A Bargain for Futures
"You can make a different call," the archer had told her, the American, always so certain of his ground.

"I'm not a child," Natasha growled back as they walked down a narrow alleyway in Budapest. "Don't appeal to my innocence."

He stopped, leaned back his head, and counted to ten in... Latin?

She decided at that moment that she needed to learn Latin.

"How long are we going to do this dance, Widow?" he finally asked, dropping his head to stare at her intently but somehow imploringly.

They had met a few times when he was still a freelancer, once or twice on the same side of an operation, once or twice on opposites. They'd only met twice since he joined up with SHIELD. Hawkeye was a colleague she tolerated, despite his odd proclivity for finding her if she happened to be anywhere in the same area.

He stepped forward, his gaze and nearness suddenly palpable.

She stepped back.

"I could appeal to your affections," he said easily, mouth quirking in a small but noticeable grin.

Natasha sniffed. "Love is for children."

"Your friendship then," Hawkeye countered. "We are friends, right?" He leaned an arm on the brick wall beside her.

She looked at him and sighed. "You never give up, do you?"

He had always liked it when they fought on the same side of an operation. She hadn't. He bumped into the ghosts and spaces left inside her that the Winter Soldier had used to fill. Natasha may have put aside love, but she was not so heartless as she let on.

"When you have me dead to rights with an arrow and I cannot escape," she told him, "I will accept your offer."

"Either that or the other country, huh?" He smiled, couldn't seem to even help himself. "You like me better than death."

She liked him better than almost anyone, but Natasha only smiled, stepped on tiptoes, and murmured in his ear, "In your dream," before she left him chuckling behind her.

"You like me better than death."

Oh, this is nice.. Natasha's "love is for children" line is exactly what made me prompt this, and you just write her (and Clint, but yeah, Natashaaaa) so well. And again, love the mention of the Winter Soldier leaving her with some scars/ghosts - I really kind of hope some of that plays out in the movies, because even though Natasha claims to have met him once, it's friggin' Natasha. Thank you!

Re: MCU Fill: A Bargain for Futures
Thank you! I love writing her and when I read that prompt, I so heard that line of hers. I can't help but keep deconstructing it. There are sooooo many things it could have meant.

And I too love the Winter Soldier backstory for her. As far as that goes, I loved her paired with him before I fell head-over-heels in love with Clint/Natasha, so naturally I'm all over the map with which I ship at any given moment and sometimes slide straight into OT3 territory.

I hope for the movies, but I kind of doubt it. I was glad to discover the whole KGB decision was from comics, just really wish they hadn't jettisoned before that. I get why they did, but I don't like it.

Re: MCU Fill: A Bargain for Futures
Same, I'm obsessed with that line. Scarlett's delivery of it just puts so much into it.

Hahaha, yeah, I'm pretty sure I ship Bucky/everyone at this point so I'd be all about the OT3. Like, Clint wanting to be vaguely jealous but realizing Bucky was there first annnnd having grudging respect for what a badass Bucky is. And Natasha being annoyed with both of them most of the time. IDK MAN BUT NOW THAT YOU MENTION IT I WANT IT.

They probably won't do it, but it would be cool, and seeing as Sebastian's signed on for NINE MOVIES, throwing a little bit of those two in might not be as implausible as my brain insists it is.

Re: MCU Fill: A Bargain for Futures
I will put writing you a serious OT3 with Natasha being annoyed at her boys with their vaguely jealous and grudging respect onto my agenda and post it to AO3 when I get it pulled together.

I do love re-interrogating the whole "different call." So many possibilities.
