Scary Wednesday

Hello, everyone. I’m truthwritaslies and today's theme is Scary. Prompts can be Fears, phobias, or even straight up horror!

Just a few rules:
No more than five prompts in a row.
No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
Use the character's full names and fandom's full name for ease adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here.
If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the above mentioned spoiler cut.

Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt

Some examples to get the ball rolling...
+ Any, Any couple with a new baby, Fear of waking up to a silent baby monitor.
+ Supernatural, Sam Winchester, There's a good reason for his Coulrophobia
+ Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Buffy Summers, She fears that the future councils will try to pull her from heaven (again).

We are now using AO3 to bookmark filled prompts. If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3 please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2016 collection. See further notes on this new option here.

Not feeling any of today’s prompts? Check out the just created Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet. For more recent prompts to write, you can also use LJ’s advanced search options to limit keyword results to only comments in this community.

While the Lonely Prompts Spreadsheet and LJ's advanced search options are available, bookmarking the links of prompts you like might work better for searching for in the future.

Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard / or & Elizabeth Weir, an incident leaves him in fear of being touched.

Fill. Stargate: Atlantis, John Sheppard/Elizabeth Weir. Lifeline AU.
Much of the city had changed: no more designated sections, the entirety of her was open and lived in. Three ZPMs pilfered from the remains of the destroyed Asuras had made that possible in year six, and the breakthrough on recharging them meant they would continue to do so.

(“It was joint effort,” Jeannie said, gracious to the last.

Radek, of course, elected to put the due where it belonged, telling Elizabeth, “She is most modest—very much more than Rodney. She made the discovery.”

“Hey, I'm modest! I have lots of modesty. I am just dripping with it.”

“Yes, yes. Extremely demure.”

Rodney just pouted and left the room, but Elizabeth hadn't failed to notice that not once had he grabbed for the accolade.)

She wasn't surprised by it—hell, after nine years, she would have been angry if it'd stayed the same—and she spent time wandering the corridors every day, learning the new layout, the new places where children ran and played and their parents worked and lived. She learned the new rhythm to the day and week, and she sat in Operations just to watch the comings and goings of everyone around her.

It took time, but she started to feel connected again: she could feel the pulse of Atlantis under her fingertips and could hear the breath of her when she sat still for a minute. It began to feel, again, like home.

Atlantis felt like it, was it, and she wrapped herself in that feeling every evening before she returned to her quarters.

“Hey,” she murmured as she came through the door, spying John curled up in his chair.

He smiled at her and nodded. “Hey.”

Coffee had been brewed, the smell wafting into the living room from the kitchen, and she bee-lined for the pot. Thank God for the Ancients' own coffee addiction: coffea plants had been found all over Pegasus making it one of the few familiar tastes they hadn't lost in the Schism.

“Where were you all day?”

“Ops. Lorne and I were discussing the gate teams.” John flicked the tablet off.

She resisted asking if there was anything she should know. She wasn't, technically, back in command yet, though John had started handing off smaller decisions to her; Elizabeth had made John promise that he would retain his hold on the city until she felt she'd caught up with everything she'd missed.

“Where were you?”

“Carson and I took me on a lovely stroll through the settlement this morning and then, after my appointment with Kate, I went down to the school to do some reading.”

“What did you think of our little town?”

Elizabeth sipped her coffee, then answered, “I think it's not a town so much as a city now. It has roads and ten storey buildings.”

“Rodney's still convinced he could build them taller if he didn't have such limited supplies. I think he just wants to build a skyscraper and name it after himself.”

She laughed; with a shake of her head, she settled onto the couch and stretched her fingers toward him, brushing over his knuckles.

It was the most touch he would allow outside of their bed and some days, the only touch he allowed at all. (He would not tell her why, but Carson had filled in the blanks not long after Rodney had brought John home to her.

Every day she wished she hadn't been in stasis when he'd been taken by the Vanir.)

Tonight it was the only touch he could bear, and he pulled his hand away when her fingers left his skin. He didn't mean it to hurt her or upset her, but her heart ached when he curled his hand out of reach; he gaver her his best reassuring smile, brittle though it was, and asked if she wanted to watch a movie before she went to bed.

Before she went, not they.

She sighed, wanting for them to watch something together, both of them on the couch and comfortable, but John's mind wouldn't allow it, not then.

So Elizabeth touched the arm of the chair as she went by in lieu of touching John and went to the bedroom, watching through the open door once she was tucked under the blankets as John laid down on the couch. The comforter they kept now for nights like this one covered him and hung half onto the floor.

Praying as she fell asleep, she hoped that his nightmares would be short and few.

I liked this, the grand future you imagined for Atlantis, and how Elizabeth is so careful and conscientious in her relationship with John.

Re: Fill. Stargate: Atlantis, John Sheppard/Elizabeth Weir. Lifeline AU.
Thank you--I hadn't meant to turn this little AU into something bigger, but now that I have I've spent some time pondering what life would be like for them and I'm looking forward to exploring it. And I'm glad that her care for him is coming across well. I admit that I've never written het as a primary pairing despite being in various fandoms for nearly 20 years, so I kind of feel that I'm getting my sea legs with this. :)

I think sometimes in our efforts to be egalitarian between the sexes we sometimes overlook the genuine differences between het versus non-het relationships, and exploring them can be kind of tough, but I think you struck a great balance here.

You can totally run more than one 'verse on this comm.

Do it! Join me in the crazy!

Re: Fill. Stargate: Atlantis, John Sheppard/Elizabeth Weir. Lifeline AU.
Agreed. I feel that I stayed away from het pairings because I worried I wouldn't be able to effect the same kind of balance that I could with non-het. But I think maybe Elizabeth and John are a good starting place for me due to the fact that they are such strong characters on their own, and combined with this innate respect for each other, I don't stress as much that I'm relegating this one to that role or that one to this trope.

Oh, I am so down that rabbit hole, that I'm definitely going to be joining you in the crazy.
